
On March 21, 2023, a presentation related to the World Down Syndrome Day, was held at the Makhinjauri Maritime Lyceum.
Lyceum students presented works related to the date.
The event "Friends don't count chromosomes" was organized by the Integrated Department of Natural and Mathematical Sciences.
March 21 is World Down Syndrome Day. According to statistical data, one out of 600-800 newborns in the world is born with Down syndrome.
March 21 was established as World Down Syndrome Day under the auspices of the United Nations on November 10, 2011. The date is also celebrated in Georgia. The purpose of the event is to protect the dignity and rights of people with Down syndrome and to ensure well-being.
Down syndrome is a human genetic condition in which all cells have 47 chromosomes instead of 46.
