On 21 November 2025, students of the Makhinjauri Maritime School attended a thematic exhibition titled “From the History of Seafaring in Southwestern Georgia.”
The exhibition was held at the Khariton Akhvlediani Museum of Adjara and featured a ship model, fishing nets, historical maps, unique photographs, a copy of a customs ledger, nautical instruments, and other related artifacts.
The museum director, Otar Gogolishvili, presented to the participants the stages of seafaring development in Adjara and the processes through which maritime culture was established in the region.
As part of the event, a documentary film by Professor Malkhaz Chokharadze from Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University was screened. Titled “The Story of Chorokhi Seafaring,” the film depicts the historical development and contemporary practices of seafaring in the Chorokhi River basin, the specifics of shipbuilding, and the oral histories of the riverside villages.
